Village of Hoosick Falls Water Source

Permanent water transmission infrastructure has been built to ensure a clean and reliable drinking water supply for the Village of Hoosick Falls. This includes a new water transmission line along NY Route 22 from the new groundwater source to the existing village water treatment plant. The new groundwater source, located outside of the contaminated aquifer, is fully compatible with the water treatment plant capabilities, including the continued use of a granular activated carbon (GAC) filter to fully protect public health.

Since the contamination was discovered in 2014, the following has been completed:

  • Installed temporary GAC filtration system (2016)
  • Installed permanent GAC filtration system (successfully operating since early 2017 and part of the permanent water treatment plant)
  • Announced an alternate water supply
  • Issued Record of Decision that identified the future new water source as a new groundwater source 1.25 miles southwest of the village’s current wells
  • Designed (2023) and built (2024) the infrastructure to connect the new water source to the village

The new water source to be online and active in late Q1 of 2025.
